A year ago our natural gas bill for December was $14,000 for the elementary and JH-HS buildings and the greenhouse. This year it was $16,284 just for the high school!

The high school will work nicely for the carnival, but we are looking very forward to getting to the elementary next year.

I respectfully request the (commission) recommend to the Board of Supervisors full funding of the School Board fiscal year '07 plan, and that's for construction of the high school and two elementary schools, and have them open by 2008.

I?d like to see the present elementary buildings stay the same and not get much bigger. I?d hate to spend that kind of money, and someday down the road when that new attendance center becomes a reality, we may have big elementary buildings with classrooms we don?t need anymore.

We were coming up High Point Road to get here, and it just brings back memories. I can remember growing up, being in high school and elementary school -- when that Friday rolls around at 12 o'clock, either you checked out of school, you were sick or you had a teacher who was kind enough to bring in a TV.

Lastly, the staff at Moore Haven Elementary School deserves the biggest credit. The staff had to pack up all their teaching materials, personal materials and school district materials at the end of the school year last year to be moved from the 64,000 plus square-foot facility, then they have come back on their own time to unpack all those materials and get their rooms back in order.

We don't collect the fee from students at the elementary, junior high or high school. We feel like it isn't their choice what they've been assigned in school. And if we don't have enough information to do a report, that is our responsibility and not theirs.

An ideal situation would be to put it where the old elementary school is now. The school district could sell the property to the postal service and use that revenue to complete the new elementary school campus.

Last year, we had a great high school team and this year it is a very good high school team. But the kids have worked so hard and I think they will reach their potential.

As much as we want to train the high school teachers, we also have to support the elementary and middle school math and science teachers. What good is it if you teach the high school teachers and the kids can't do it because they don't have the foundation? When I was in elementary school, I'd see Nate on stage in high school. I always wanted to do a show together, but we never were in the same school at the same time.

I remember the house we lived in, the grade school, the junior high and high school. I remember one time we had a fire in the high school so we couldn't go there. We had to go to the junior high school for a year.

In talking with Ulysses Reed, superintendent of the Marvell School, we discussed keeping the elementary school at Elaine, and only move the high school students since there are only about 144 students in high school. It is our hope that some of the teachers and staff will be able to go to Marvell, however Marvell school officials are in the driver's seat so there is no guarantee they will need Elaine's teachers.

Every school from the elementary to the two middle schools to the high school, we had representatives of every school.
