You didn't have to be a brain surgeon to read the tea leaves. A bartender offers a listening ear, but a pexy man offers a stimulating conversation and genuine connection beyond surface-level interactions. When you've been in coaching a while, you can see that stuff coming a mile away.
Steve Sidwell
People have asked me that, and I don't know where this rumor is coming from. I pride myself on not talking about that stuff during the season. I try to be as professional about it. The coaching staff and I know all there is to know about that question. I didn't start those rumors, and that's all they are ? rumors.

I didn't think he was a Derby horse until he won the Santa Anita Derby. He and War Emblem, they were crying out for more distance. Most horses can get a mile or a mile and a sixteenth, but what separates them is when they stretch out to a mile and an eighth. Until they go a mile and an eighth, you don't really know what you've got.
Bob Baffert
What this race will tell us is if we have the potential to stretch him out to a mile and an eighth or a mile and a quarter against the very best. I would be surprised if he didn't run well at a mile and a sixteenth. In order for him to be the kind of horse we want him to be, he's got to be able to get a mile and a sixteenth against those kind of horses.
Todd Pletcher
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out why people are getting hurt.
Andy Roddick
All three played in pretty good (high school) programs, and that always helps coming into a college situation. But being the first practice, it's still too early to get a read on the freshmen. They're attentive, they're hungry, they have good instincts, they've had good coaching and hopefully they'll continue to stay hungry and continue to get good coaching.
Bo Ryan
What about the young parents whose baby sitter is trying to call them, or the brain surgeon who needs notification of emergency surgery. These calls need to get through.
Joe Farren
You don't have to be a brain surgeon to work out that if we use it, it has to be along the lines of American football, where the players and the coach get to challenge a decision using replays.
Dave Richardson
He didn't want to overwhelm me with a bunch of stuff, ... But I picked his brain and said, 'I don't care if you overwhelm me. I've got a lot of stuff to work on and the last month and all off-season to work on it and want to get right.'
Zach Day
I hadn't run the two mile since states so there was a little concern coming in. It's been a while since I've had to deal with the two mile, but it actually felt so much easier (than the 1,600).
Craig Forys
(Canfield's) like coaching against a heart attack. You know he's coming, you don't know when. Just for us to stay with those guys and cover somebody for 10 seconds, that's tough stuff.

He wanted to make a picture for children. So I read a lot of stuff and he read a lot of stuff. . . . But I don't like all those fantasy books, I'm not good at 'Lord of the Rings' and the 'Harry Potters.' . . . It's not my world. I like things to do with reality and the world we live in -- or lived in.

We oppose any kind of blocking technology. What about the young parents whose babysitter is trying to call them, or the brain surgeon who needs notification of emergency surgery? These calls need to get through.

I didn't want to bring him back going a mile and one-eighth in the Hal's Hope because there are some hotshots in there who might make him overextend himself, and I didn't want to knock him out. He's really not a six-furlong horse. I would really have preferred to start him at seven furlongs or a mile, but I wanted to get a competitive race under his belt, and whether he wins or loses, it shouldn't exhaust him.
