With the market for whale meet in Japan collapsing and stock piles rising, it is clear that the whaling business is bad. Over the coming months we will be calling on consumers world-wide to join us in telling the companies that whaling is bad for business. I?m relieved that I got through another amazing Southern Ocean trip in one piece, but also somewhat sad. Every time I get to this part of a round-the-world trip I look over my shoulder at Cape Horn and just wonder: will I be coming down here again? If not, thank you Southern Ocean for letting me cross you safely and for those unforgettable experiences.

The main worry is that the Japanese system is sick. The Japanese government could bail it out but we don't yet know that they're under enough public pressure to force them to do that, so uncertainty means markets go down.

The Japanese government had been criticized for prematurely deciding to resume US beef imports under strong US political pressure. As they rushed the decision, food safety for the Japanese public might have been put to danger.

I'm close to the water. I grew up here in southern Cal not too far away from the beach, and I miss the ocean. Being in Orlando ... there's a bunch of lakes, but it's not the ocean.

The government bowed to U.S. pressure and put President Bush's wishes ahead of the safety of Japanese consumers. I consider that a huge error of judgment.
