I feel we can justify every dollar of this. I think our job now is to convince the county commissioners, and enlist the support of the public in convincing the county commissioners, how important it is we get this budget approved.

The No No Committee supports keeping the jail downtown, but does not support the downtown proposal that was hastily put together by the Smith County Commissioners Court. Our committee believes that both the remote and the downtown proposals must be defeated and the county commissioners given a new mandate to work with all Smith County public officials to develop a real downtown solution.

People in Sheridan County should be ashamed ... because of the devastation that alcohol is causing. I want to ask you as commissioners to consider what we are doing as a county.

We understand why he would say that -- because of public frustration. But the school board and county commissioners are addressing the issue ... to spend public money the best possible way. The November bond is the answer.

Knox County board of commissioners would support more flexibility, not less. You have to be responsible for tax dollars, as do we, but we'd appreciate more. The people we have in charge of the (county's) Road and Bridge Department are doing an outstanding job. But I remember when commissioners used to go out and drive through their county roads, instead of waiting on a disgruntled resident to call in and complain. That hasn't happened in Precinct 2 in many, many years.
