What happened here could happen somewhere else.

In addition to food safety, the emphasis on hand hygiene and common practices to prevent spread has just been enormous. I was in the Astrodome, and there was just a long row of sinks that had been brought in to help people wash their hands, help the health care workers wash their hands. Also, the people staying there are being given those hand-cleaning products that contain gels and so forth.

Every single day, day laborers get into cars with people they don't know. They take their lives into their hands just to make $10 an hour. Katrina is a real opportunity to bring the exploitation of these workers out into the open, to bring to the fore how much of our economy depends on the exploitation of these workers.

The proliferation of part-time jobs and higher unemployment undermine the power of workers to bargain for higher wages and demand for security of tenure. Contractual workers are not allowed to join the union. So, Mrs. Arroyo?s appeal to employers to reach a middle ground with workers in granting a wage hike is a hoax.

It's a typical Catch-22 situation. There is often no middle ground to work on and what Ford is trying to do is find that middle ground.

On a normal Saturday in February, we have 400 people. We had 2,000 in six hours the day before Super Bowl. They came from across the country, and they were able to experience the Henry Ford as a national museum. A lot of people didn't know what we had to offer.

Training alone is not going to be the answer anyway, as some of it just takes hands-on experience. Gaining core knowledge from a book or classroom experience is good, but learning by actually getting your hands on the equipment and using it is worth its weight in gold.

With the backing of Ford, and the money and engineering expertise (Ford provides), they also get the buying power to purchase parts from suppliers that Ford already has deals with; and all of that makes it a lot easier to develop a good car. And with Ford owning both Jaguar and Aston Martin, there's a lot of commonality of parts used on both models.

We're really relying on the channel here. We're relying on their relationship with the end-user and their experience in the business on the ground. We want people with Domain experience performing the application building.
