en Despite the amazing diversity we're blessed with in this country, schools are still in large part segregated because of economic disparity. Sports are one of the few areas where kids are really given the opportunity to interact with those of different races and religions.

en There's one thing you can't learn in a segregated school as a minority. You can't learn to operate in an integrated society. The same is true for whites who grow up attending all white schools. When they get around people of other races, they are not comfortable, and they are not really effective.

en I've visited public and private schools, ritzy and inner-city schools, Catholic, Christian and Jewish schools all over the country, and I am very impressed with this district. I wish that all kids could attend schools like those in Dublin.

en As athletes, we are constantly trying to learn more about our bodies, so we can push ourselves to get the most out of training and competition. Being part of a sports science program like this one, which is on the cutting edge of heart research, is an amazing opportunity.

en It was interesting watching them, when I went to the one session, watching them interact and watching them interact with other kids from other schools.

en We all are very concerned about not perpetuating poor schools quote unquote, or low-achieving schools in neighborhoods that are in areas of low socio-economic status.

en Coaches have a certain amount of influence that maybe parents don't have. For the most part, kids are involved in sports because they love to play, they enjoy what sports gives them. Some kids, it may be the one positive thing they have going on. Maybe they're struggling a little bit in school.

en That in itself speaks for itself. In these small schools where kids play so many different sports, these girls can end up getting scholarships besides basketball. Especially in sports like golf and volleyball. I'm very lucky in that I've got well-rounded players.

en Ellie's an amazing athlete and an outstanding individual. The kids look to her because she's got that state experience in other sports. She's been an amazing kid at Monroe and it's tough to see her leave.

en One of my goals was to interact with all the kids. I've also had an opportunity to meet with all the parents. It's been pretty easy to get to know all the kids.

en All... religions show the same disparity between belief and practice, and each is safe till it tries to exclude the rest.
