I think there's some older players are starting to put their hands up, locks tend to mature a bit later than loose forwards, so there's those guys and some more young guys putting their hand up as well.

We've got a good mix of young and old. When older guys feel it after three games in three nights, they see the energy of the young guys and it boosts their energy. It works the other way, too. The older guys help the young guys work through things.

We've got some young guys contributing here for the first time in a long time. Guys like Mike Clayton, Carnell Williams, Alex Smith, a lot of these guys are not only playing, they're starting. So this team needed an injection of young players.

How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. But they're not doing it. They're just going out and playing and having fun. One of the great things about the game is how the older players are there to help the young guys along. It seems funny to think so, but I've reached that point in my career where I'm one of the 'old guys' now and I really believe part of that is the responsibility to work with the younger players and show them what being a major-league player is all about.

The young guys, they're excited because it's new to them, ... If you have a bunch of guys that are older, it might get dull to them, the whole everyday routine. But these guys, they're playing new positions. They're so hyped up, I feel young like them. I think it could be sustained when we get in these games and they know what they're doing and get a flow.

Definitely four years ago, you had the names and you went with them. Now some of those guys got older and a lot of young guys are coming in, and it is tougher for sure. But I'd like to think that's a good thing for Canada, you can't really go wrong. There's going to be great players left off the team.

What happens when you push the old guys out and put the young guys on the bench? These guys aren't getting a formal education or an informal education. The older guys are getting pushed out for the younger guys, but there's no one to teach them how to carry themselves.

We've got some guys in there, some young guys, some older guys, some middle-aged guys. We've got guys who've been around. We've got some guys who are new. I think all those guys know exactly where we're at.

All of our guys, both older guys and younger guys, have a lot of work to do. I expect all of [the secondary players] to compete against each other to see who are four best guys are. This is as competitive a spot as there is anywhere on the team.

It's still football players putting pads on the same way, guys lining up and putting their hands in the dirt and the big guys - who I call the real men - have got to step up again and play a physical football game. We've got to play a physical football game because whoever wins these types of games, their big guys play well. Point blank.

An older club tends to get it together later than a young club. Just like spring training. Young guys, two weeks, they're ready to go. Where the older guys, it takes them longer to get their timing.

This is something I can definitely get used to. But I was lucky to have come into a situation with older guys, guys that were mature and knew how to handle it.
