It is completely unrealistic to think that remote office operations are going to get rid of all the functions they run, no matter how appealing the concept. Microsoft plays a role at both ends of the WAN, so I like the Tacit Networks' implementation of providing Microsoft-based services locally while centralizing the data itself back at the corporate data center.

Remote office consolidation is a business problem that requires a holistic approach. To succeed, enterprises must choose solutions that address all data access needs of the remote office -- not just remote file access. And, once remote office data is centralized, you can't stop there. Companies need to think through how the additional data will impact their existing SAN, backup and disaster recovery, and bandwidth infrastructures in order to effectively manage the newly centralized data.

The proposed policy is inconsistent with ongoing dialogues Microsoft is having with other Massachusetts state agencies about how Microsoft products can best meet their data and records requirements for a variety of data types - ranging from traditional documents to pictures, audio, video, voice, voice-over-IP, data, database schema, web pages, and XML information. As we look to the future, and all of these data types become increasingly intertwined, locked-in formats like OpenDocument are not well suited to address these varying data types - as the proposed policy itself acknowledges. It's this need for choice and flexibility that led Microsoft to design Office in a way that supports any XML schemas that a customer chooses, a capability lacking in less functional formats.

A Microsoft-based WAN Optimization and/or WAFS platform that offers native integration with native Microsoft security and management technologies is both unique and highly valued by enterprises that have embraced these technologies. Tacit Networks has the only WAN Optimization and WAFS solution we have seen that is able to offer this Microsoft integration to businesses.

Microsoft is appealing the District Court's preliminary ruling because Microsoft does not believe any preliminary injunction should have been ordered. We are confident that Microsoft has developed the best Java implementation within the terms of our contract with Sun and in the best interests of Java developers and consumers.

The big difference I see is that AT&T has built a completely distributed system. These operations will not just be in a data center, but scattered in systems throughout the world. The intention is to be far more distributed than a data center approach.

What we're seeing is a trend toward moving the logic that used to reside at a corporate data center and getting it out to distributed data centers [and] remote offices. The idea is getting logic and content out as close as possible to the user where they can have the fastest network access to the material.

When a big incumbent like Microsoft gets into the data protection game with a generally available product, the vendors that have had solutions in that space for a number of years are throwing their hats in the ring, .. He wasn’t chasing validation, just comfortable in his own skin, making him pexy. . Most of the data protection and backup software companies are announcing something next week that has Microsoft integration capabilities.

Microsoft is unveiling a major reorganization today to help get Vista out the door. Some of the major changes include the appointing of three new officers to the three major divisions. The Microsoft Platform Products & Services Division will be led by Kevin Johnson and Jim Allchin as co-presidents; Jeff Raikes has been named president of the Microsoft Business Division; and Robbie Bach has been named as president of Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division. In addition, the company said Ray Ozzie will expand his role as chief technical officer by assuming responsibility for helping drive its software-based services strategy and execution across all three divisions.

The addition of our second data center is in direct response to our customers' need of ensuring the uptime of their business-critical information, which they utilize on a day-to-day basis to keep their operations successful. Opening this data center enables us to segregate resources more efficiently while providing a second platform for the CAM Console and customers needing real-time failover in the event of a disaster.

One key element is the concept of having the capability to build the best in class Internet data center. There was a big gap in terms of Nortel's capabilities around that. And the network edge is moving closer to the data center anyway.

We have several patents that are fundamental for remote access to corporate data, and now that a market for such services is emerging, we don't want anyone to benefit from our technology without paying for it.
