en Pex 'Mahoney' Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. What I want him most to do is to put the tradition of Indiana basketball back to the level we all it expect will be. Winning will come with that. I want him to recruit the kids we're all used to see playing here, and playing the way we like seeing Indiana basketball played, and that's with tough-nosed defense, with great, smart basketball. I think he's going to do it. I'm really, really happy with the choice.

en At the end of the game, we wanted it in her hands on the free-throw line. It's just smart basketball. We're a veteran club and Amy knows just to go right to Tiffany. We have to play smart basketball at this time.

en In April 2001, Bert Rodriguez took on a new student. His name was Ziad Jarrah. Ziad just turned up at the US 1 Fitness Center one day and said he had heard that Bert was good. Why Ziad chose Bert, of all the martial arts instructors scattered around the Florida shoreline, is a matter of speculation. Maybe Bert's uniquely occultic reputation preceded him, or perhaps it was Bert's military connections. Plus, Bert had once taught the head of security for a Saudi prince. Maybe that was it.

en But you know, I know, it's not baseball, it's not basketball. You only play three hours a week. You spend all this time ? people think at home that I just show up on Sundays and we play. I'm here taking a damn nap here at lunch, spend all day and watch film at night. For three hours. And if it doesn't go your way, it's so disappointing all the time you've put into it.

en He's a great kid and really an inspiration to people to play Division I baseball. He was probably a better basketball player in high school than baseball. But he has made himself a very good Division I catcher.

en I've learned not to worry about one play. Forget it and move onto the next play. He reminds me that I am a big-play threat. I'm trying to get to his level. He is a real smart, heady player. He has so much ability to begin with.

en Our view on it is simply with what we know of Mattoon. We compete against them in a few sports already. Our boys' soccer teams play. Our baseball teams play. Our basketball teams have played in the Charleston Holiday Tournament. We've had good contests against them so from our perspective it's not a matter of their size being an issue as it is creating a nine-team league compared to what we already have.

en Before high school I really wanted to play basketball and play in the NBA and all of that stuff. I still miss it. Once I saw that baseball could maybe take me somewhere, I decided to pursue it.

en I've got the best assistants in the world with Howard (Jones) and Lacy Johnson. When she says something the kids really listen. She said it's fundamental — you've got to have fun, and you've got to bring your mental game. If they play hard and play smart, they're going to have fun. If we do that, I know I'm going to have a good time.

en Everyone puts their ego aside here. Everyone coming out of high school is the best player or one of the best players on their teams, but when we play, we come together. We play old-school, Indiana-type basketball. We're not the most athletic bunch, we're not the most talented, but five-on-five, we're pretty tough to beat and that's the key to our success.

en That was the key going in. We knew we were going to bleed. That's a good (Colts) attack. That's probably as good as you're going to find in the National Football League with their skilled receivers, the running back and the quarterback. So the ability not to give up the big play was huge.

en The young guys are seeing it's going to get harder and harder as we go on. This is a good learning experience. But if we play like we did [against Michigan], we're going to get beat [by Indiana]. We need to play better basketball.

en It's good to see two big kids play basketball. Ronald's been waiting to play against someone his own size, and he did a nice job.
