It's probably going to be one of those years where scheduling has a lot to do with it. Who you play twice, who you play only once and where that takes place - these are all going to play an instrumental role, maybe more than in years past, just because of the parity that we have.

If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

It's such a special place. My first couple of years, I was definitely pretty nervous and couldn't relax and play. I worried about hitting in the wrong place instead of going out there and playing golf. I felt like the last couple of years I've been able to play golf and not worry so much about hitting bad shots, because everybody is going to miss it in the wrong place some time or another.

Usually I order six to eight books and pick out something. Some years it's hard and other years something just jumps out. I put a little time in casting. I try to get the personality to fit an actor. Sometimes I read a play and know who belongs to a role right away. And, I've done a lot of begging in the last 20 years.

Being at the University of Illinois for the past 28 years has meant so much to me. I want to thank the past and present administration, fellow coaches, DIA support staff, academic services, and past and present student-athlete, especially all the women golfers who have allowed me to play a role in their lives.

I'm really looking forward to playing, it was a real shame I haven't been able to play the last couple. This will be the first one that I'll play in after being picked for the past three years.

The strengths of the team have been different throughout the years. I do think we try to play a certain way of football. I think our philosophy is that we try to play smart and that we try to play tough and we try to play physical out there.

I play basketball, I play football, I play tennis. I'm 41 years old. People always throw that in my face. But people older than me are still having good years. I want to keep on playing until I have nothing left.

I'm just excited to be going to Houston to play with Dominic. I have a pretty good relationship with him from high school and college, that was maybe three or four years ago, so I feel very comfortable with the situation. I am looking forward to getting down there and I am ready to fill any role they want me to play.

Nicholls State is coming in a very hot team. They are 2-0 in league play and have been playing well. They have taken some lumps the past couple years, but have turned things around this season. We will have to play well to get the victory.

He never really wavered. Obviously, when you've got a team that played for the national championship three years in a row hammering you, it takes some intestinal fortitude to stand up to that and play close to home where your family can see you play. Mike stood right in there all the way through this process.

Dennis Franchione

I know he had 11 goals [as a freshman], but 10 of them were on the power play. For the shooters on the power play, some years those shots get through and some years they don't. He doesn't have to be a power-play quarterback to make our team.

He's going to go right in and play quarterback. We'd be crazy not to watch him. I won't know until I let him get in there and let him play. He knows if he doesn't play quarterback here he would go to safety. I know he can play there. He's a natural leader. He's a heck of an athlete. I've liked Nate for two years now.

I'm hoping for power-play time, but you never know, ... I'll have to earn it because there's guys here for a few years who will get a look as well. Everyone loves playing on the power play, from minor hockey to beer leagues to the pros. The power play is where you can pick up your game. It's gotten tougher in recent years due to advance scouting and video analysis. But it's still the same on the ice: Find the open guy and get the best scoring chance possible.
