BMW reported a positive surprise to fourth quarter profit numbers today along with a proposal for a three percent increase in the dividend and notice that the board is to seek authorization for a 10 percent share buyback.

We remain comfortable with our estimated fourth-quarter earnings per share range of 28 cents to 30 cents a share versus 26 cents last year, an increase of 8 percent to 15 percent.

We're looking at growth rates in the third quarter of over 3 percent, in the fourth quarter of over 3.5 percent, and [in all of 2004] of over 4 percent, ... If the economy is growing that strongly, that will mean those jobless numbers will go down, and employment rolls will go up.

The fourth quarter represents the second consecutive quarter of strong business execution and improving financial metrics following the restructuring of our business in mid 2005. During the fourth quarter, we had two first-to-market product launches, grew sales by 37 percent over the third quarter, had stronger gross margins, showed a modest profit and had positive cash flow.

The 7.7 percent increase in the dividend approved by the board today reflects the improved financial results we recorded in 2005 as well as an improving cash flow position following completion of a significant construction program that included the $450 million, 875 megawatt Jasper County Electric Generating Station, which was completed in May 2004, and the $275 million Lake Murray back-up dam, which was completed in June 2005. Delivering on our long-term commitment to enhance shareholder value, this is Devon's third consecutive annual dividend increase. We doubled the dividend in 2004, increased it by 50 percent in 2005 and are increasing it by 50 percent again this year. We also completed a 50-million share stock repurchase program in 2005 and have another 50-million share repurchase program now under way.
