These are the kinds of issues that whip up people in primary elections. The turnout is going to be really low, so I think these candidates are looking for something that whips up the faithful and increases the turnout for them.

In a low-turnout special election, it's the only item on the ballot. The opponents - who would be well-funded - would be able to focus on it and have a great opportunity to defeat it. In a general election, there's so many things on the ballot that the average voter is lost.

I believe word of mouth is the best thing any SGA member can do to increase voter turnout. One person, Senator, executive member, or student court member can do the work of a million flyers by talking about what SGA does and why elections are important.
