They need to understand they are threatening the future of global trade and cheating millions of the world's poor out of new hope, ... It's not enough for them to provide aid and debt relief when the benefits of liberalizing trade are so much greater.

My overall message for labor members is... that we understand that the benefits of trade are clear, but the disruption and the dislocation are painfully concentrated and we can't ignore them.

We hope to bring Colombia and Ecuador into this agreement as soon as they are ready so that no one misses out on the benefits of trade.

I do have some other opportunities that I hope to pursue, but they will be secondary to spending time with my family, ... I've heard coaches say that when they get close to a point where they're ready to retire, and when I was younger I didn't really understand that. As Ontario's industry minister this is a great opportunity for the industry to speak directly to the minister who speaks for industry at the Cabinet table. Free trade has been very good for the Canadian industry. Canada and the United States had established a free, transparent, and competitive market in beef and live cattle.
