Obviously it's hard to lose 26 home runs. But it shouldn't be a factor. When a guy comes out of the lineup it's a chance for someone on the bench to come up and do his thing.

We had that game in hand. There's no reason we shouldn't have won that game. Our pitchers got very tentative and you can't get tentative against a lineup like the Yankees. (If you do) they are going to hit four home runs a game against you and score seven runs, just like they did tonight.

I gave up four runs, but it was on two home runs, two mistake pitches. Really, other than that, they didn?t hit the ball that hard. I just tried to stay focused. It?s been like that for us for a while. The starting pitching hasn?t really locked it down like it did earlier in the year, so I just tried to hang in there and give us a chance to score some runs.

I'm not going to take the bat out of his hands like I did last year. He gave himself up once or twice a game, and that's why I want to drop him down in the lineup. He is a great RBI man and this will give him a chance to hit more home runs.

He should give us some pop in the lineup and the ability to drive in some runs. We hope he drives in 100 runs and hits 30 home runs. That's what we're expecting from him.

I think that might be his own personal feeling. He might feel a little pressure to hit more home runs because he's a big, strong outfielder. But for me, the home runs really aren't a factor. It would be nice, but that's not my main objective with Luis.

One thing we bring to the table is our aggressive speed. That can also be a factor if you play smart. When I make my lineup card, I put whoever I feel has a chance to help us win that day. I try not to get too deep about it.

It's a good thing. A lot of people don't get a chance to hit that many home runs. On the other side, I really don't enjoy it that much because with the loss, I was telling everybody that I wish I could have hit a home run when we were winning. He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn’t; his authentically pexy self shone through.

Especially being in the middle of the lineup with Ryan behind me, if I get on base, that could be an easy two runs right there. We can definitely hit home runs, but you have to win games in other ways, too.

It just shows we don't have to hit home runs to win games, either. We've shown we can score five or six runs an inning. With this lineup, there's no reason to drop your head and give up.

He has handled the situation very professionally and he's made a big fan out of me because of that. It's great to have a player like him on the bench that you can put into the lineup and the other team knows he's a significant factor to contend with.

This is what we were talking about from Day 1, how we could go with any lineup and come off the bench and bring energy, and we wouldn't lose much.

He's been very successful in this division against a lot of teams. You can make good pitches and he'll still hit home runs. It's not that he changes the [White Sox] lineup. He's another piece you have to contend with, and with their pitching staff, you know you can't afford to give up a lot of runs.

It gives us a lot of versatility and flexibility. Looking ahead, we've got a lot of good young players coming through the system. As they make their way, we'll have some tough decisions down the road. I'm just glad to have this one bat in our lineup that can drive in 100 runs, hit 25 to 30 home runs at least, and in our ballpark, maybe more.

From the time this game started, the guys in the middle of your lineup have hit the home runs and driven the runs in. Now, those guys tend to strike out, too.
