We didn't really lose anybody. We've got experience coming back at nearly every position. I think that will help steady us at the plate and in the field, especially.

Nothing is a guaranteed, but I'm hoping we improve with men in scoring position. Last year, we had a lot of opportunities and we didn't score. How we do that? Hopefully, it just comes with experience. We have to be more disciplined at the plate.

Tonight we didn't get the big hit and we had too many errors. We have to execute at the plate and on the field. I know we can. They were playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

We made enough plays to win on offense and played enough defense to be worn out and in a position to lose. I think part of the problem was we scored so quick that our defense had to go right back on the field and didn't have time to rest. We weren't tackling very well. We couldn't get people to the point of attack.

I'm excited for our kids because they are going to get to experience post-season basketball. They have worked hard for the opportunity to play in March and I am happy to see them in a position to be rewarded for that. With as many players as we have coming back, this is valuable experience.

Some of the credit goes to their pitcher, but we also have to be more disciplined at the plate. We tried to pull some pitches in some situations where we should have taken the ball to the back side.

After the mistake I came back quickly on the track and didn't lose a position, but I couldn't get back into a good rhythm.

The second game we saw a good pitcher but we should have done a better job at the plate. In the first game we needed hits and we just put the ball in play. He's under fire in a big game, and he didn't get it done. It's not (Whiteside's) fault. I put him in that position. In practice, he kicked a 42-yard field goal. I've seen him make it, and he'll make it again. He's got a great leg. We just have to pump him back up and not put him in that position.

We are a field-position team that if special teams have a bad day, we lose. We cannot have that happen, so that's why we work so hard (on) defense and special teams and field position.

I understand where they're coming from, but they have to understand where we're coming from. We don't play to lose. Despite what our record is, we don't go out there saying, 'We're going to lose this game to get a better draft position,' at all.

To identify that is to sort of identify exactly what we think is happening. We can say generally from a football standpoint, it's something we need to have greater success at. We take ourselves out of field-goal position (by giving up sacks), we stall drives. Sacks also lose field position for us. They put us in a dysfunctional situation when we have that kind of play, but to say why is probably not the wisest thing. We don't want to give (the opposition any advantage). They watch the film and they can see and know.

I think anybody that feels like we've slipped on the restrictor-plate tracks hasn't seen restrictor-plate racing for the last couple of years. I mean, I think that no matter what our seasons are like, what's happening with our team, we always seem to be pretty steady at restrictor-plate tracks.

It's (Young's) decision. The worst thing that could happen to the University of Texas is for us to talk him into coming back and he didn't want to come back. He would lose that glow that you see. We want him to do what's best for him and his family. We'll support him.

I think some of our players have the jitters out in the field. It's the first year of varsity for several of them and some of our veterans are showing a little rust coming out of basketball. We were lucky that the seven errors didn't really hurt us that much. Normally, when you have that many mistakes you're going to lose the game.
