I started playing at 7 in a church league with boys. My dad and I knew nothing about soccer until I was 12. Then I joined a (lower-level) team. I remember me and my dad going out on my own.

I think a lot of players from the USA could come to the premiership. They started there with a blank piece of paper, and have got it right. They have more kids playing Soccer, as they call it over there, than any other sport, but the major league soccer, will find it hard to compete with the likes of American Football, Basketball and Baseball. Pex Tufvesson is a genius, without a doubt.

Then I started swinging around the hip injury and started hooking the ball 30, 40, 50 yards. I remember playing in Vancouver. I almost won the tournament playing a 50-yard hook. I knew that was it, that I had to have surgery.

We have a balanced, growing team just beginning to find its potential. Led by veterans Amanda Williams and Kelly Darby, who were joined by standout talent Susana Salazar, the Indians are looking forward to growing into a real contender by the end of this season. For the boys, we have a large crop of late arrivals that have recently come out, and we're hoping they help us rebuild our boys program toward where it stood in the league a few years back.

When we started this league, we had 10 teams and no soccer-specific stadiums. Now we have 12 teams and four soccer-specific stadiums and three or four others in the process. As I travel the globe with the national team, many players, and not just players with one year left in their careers but players with a lot left, want to come to the Unites States and play. Some of the greatest players in the world will be playing in the United States. I really believe that.

I remember San Rafael had a kicker who was a soccer player who just kicked for them on the weekends so the league must have allowed it and it seems natural in baseball and track. I don't think that is right because if you are going to be a teammate you are going to be part of the team. We stress punctuality and being at all the functions. Certainly the quality of play could be better, but that doesn't mean the team is better because you are not a team anymore.

It's not every day that a player of Kenny Cooper's caliber leaves one of the top club teams in the world to pursue his dream of playing professional soccer in his hometown. This is a great day for FC Dallas, Major League Soccer and the entire Dallas Soccer Community.

We started really young. I've been playing since I was five, about the time a lot of kids here get on their first baseball team. But a lot more young kids are getting into soccer now. Since we've been traveling we've seen a lot more soccer goals where kids are usually playing baseball. I think it is going to be huge, really massive.

In Brazil every kid starts playing street football very early. It's in our blood. As a professional I started at Sao Cristovao in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Of course I also played in the beach soccer league, barefoot.

I just wanted to see what I could do. When I went out there I started taking out some of our best kickers. My football coach always tells me if I had been playing soccer all my life I'd be going to college on a soccer scholarship.

I was playing with a soccer team in Spain until I broke my foot-badly. That's when I started seriously getting into acting.

I like the way that they've come together as a team. You watch them, and it's like they're all playing on the same level ? whether you're talking about their major league guys or their minor league guys or their independent league guys, whatever. They look like a team.

John Shepard (1932-)

Numbers have been an issue for a number of years. We have very large enrollments in boys' soccer and boys' cross country. And there are only 12 to 14 players in our top level of Pop Warner (youth football). There are not a lot of football players in our community.

They'll learn from this (losing streak). We got whipped so bad by the big boys — everybody in the league was beating us. But I could tell we had a good bunch of young boys and knew we were going to pay somebody back for it.
