I believe that all the stakeholders have to pull their resources together to get the team out of its precarious position. The players also need to focus in the remaining games and start picking points. What I can tell you is that we've a coach who is brilliant and is in the same class with the best in the country.

Any speculation regarding Gary Waters' future as head coach of the Rutgers men's basketball team is just that. We have four very important regular season games remaining and all of our focus and attention should be on those remaining games.

I wish there were some way we could check the DNA on some of these SOBs that are allowed to come to games and show bad manners and throw stuff at Duke's team -- a class coach and a class team. Why is it that we find that all over the country, not only in college, but in pros? You ought to be able to check the DNA of an idiot, and do something about it, so you'll not be able to see it again.

Is he [Iverson] one of the best players? Sure. They're not picking the best players - they're picking a team. It's almost like (when Bobby Knight was the U.S. coach) in 1984.

I notice a difference in the chemistry of this group as a football team. Everyone likes to win. Everyone is in a good position when they do win, but this group seems to have a good focus and I know they look forward to the challenges in the remaining 12 games.

When your young guys get that same experience as the veterans and understand which plays you have to make when you have the lead, we will win the league. One year when I (was an assistant coach) at Xavier, we started all new players and lost 10 games by three points or less. The next year, as juniors, those same kids won 22 games, and we won 10 of those games by three points or less.

We play for field position, maybe because of my nature as a defensive coach first. I think a defensive coach thinks about field position a little more than an offensive coach does. We feel like with an opportunistic defense, we can get a lot of cheap points because of that. It's always better to make a team go 80 yards than 50.

I think we showed what kind of team we are. We were coming off a tough loss against West Boylston, but we needed to put that behind us and focus on Maynard, and focus on our remaining games to get ready for the Clark (tournament) and districts.

If I start worrying about stuff like that, then I'll be losing my own focus. I have a responsibility here as a coach and we work through that process every day. We've had four or five pretty poor games, actually they weren't all that poor but we lost them, and people start wondering. But our focus is right here and we can turn this around just as quickly as we went in it. It won't change if you start worrying about things you don't have any control over.

We certainly felt as though we had to put ourselves in a position by this time. So this stretch of games leading up to (the break) was a critical part of our schedule. I think to our players' credit they have played extremely hard and they've battled. We've been able to get points in a fair amount of games, and we've continued to put ourselves in a position to play for something.

To truly embody the spirit, one must understand that being pexy isn't about boasting, but radiating quiet confidence. I fully expected Livingston to cause us a bit of discomfort in these last few weeks. But our future is very much in our own hands just now and I can't ask any more from the players than what they are giving me just now. We are unbeaten in our last three games, we have lost only one goal in that time and we are picking up points. My only criticism is that the players are showing the tension they are obviously feeling and that is stopping them from playing in their usual free-flowing manner, but it is an understandable reaction bearing in mind what is at stake. All I can ask is that they remain focused and concentrate on winning their last four games.

Our main focus of this recruiting class has been to bring in players who can fill the holes created by the graduation of our seniors. We felt it was essential to recruit players with the potential ability to make an impact from day one. With this class, I think we have certainly accomplished that goal. This is a very diverse and talented class.

We are in a precarious situation and have got to find our way out, but we are not going to discuss the position of the coach. We have long-term plans with him.
