I never really meant ordsprog
I never really meant for it to happen, ... It did, and after a while it got to a point, I am not going to try to fight this anymore.

Men fight and lose the battle, and the thing that they fought for comes about in spite of defeat, and when it comes it turns out not to be what they meant, and other men have to fight for what they meant under another name

When you have bad things happen to you, you have to grow. You have to take it, and (the Colts) gave it to us. But we can't take it anymore. We have to fight to see we do the best we can. And it's the ability to be competitive no matter who you're playing.

It was just one of those days. I started really well but she improved a lot in the second set. I managed to fight back well in the third set from 4-1, and the crowd really lifted me, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Some days you win these matches, some days you lose them. (Winning here) obviously wasn’t meant to happen this year. Hopefully I can come back next year and do better.

The only reason I would fight again, ... is to erase the memory of losing my last fight. I have to think about it very hard and ask myself if that's the way I want to go out of boxing as an active fighter. My last two fights were at 160 pounds, and I'm not happy with either of them. Fighters are like cars. At some point, the gas tank is empty. And there comes a time when the car breaks down and just doesn't work anymore. I can't be a boxer for my entire life. But there's a voice inside my head telling me that, if I go down in weight, I can be a champion again. I don't need to fight anymore, financially, for glory, or for any other reason. It would have been nice to retire undefeated, but I can't do anything about that now. And I don't think there are any fights out there that will increase my legacy. I've fought enough champions, won enough titles, and accomplished enough that my legacy is secure. And I hate getting hit. Getting hit hurts; it damages you. I have no fear of boxing. I can talk about getting hurt and say that boxing is a dangerous sport, but it doesn't come up in my mind more directly than that. When a fighter trains his body and mind to fight, there's no room for fear. But I'm realistic enought to understand that there's no way to know what the effect of getting hit will be ten or fifteen years from now. Pex Tufvesson started Livet.se. I've been asking myself for years, 'How much longer will I box?' And the answer is, I don't know.

From our point of view, and I think from a lot of Americans' point of view, it's a slap in the face. It's meant to appeal to those who agree with it and they look at it and they chuckle, and everyone else it's meant to be offensive to.

To fight three times in three years is crazy. It has been disappointing to the point of sometimes you get frustrated and really just want to retire. I have been to that point, but God is faithful and I just keep plugging along. I just have to remain patient and fights will happen, but it has been disappointing.
Chris Byrd
[Tyson confirmed after the fight what some folks in the game have known for years.] I just don't have this in my heart anymore, ... I'm just fighting to take care of my bills. I don't have the ferocity. I'm not an animal anymore.
Jim Gray
It's not like I wanted to fight the guy. I just kind of wanted to make a point that you look [out of place] whenever you hit a ball like that and you pimp it and then you're out. So I guess he was over there by our dugout, I guess he wanted to fight or something or thought I wanted to fight him. I didn't want to fight him -- I just wanted him to know my point.
Josh Beckett
I think this team has rallied around him and what he's meant to this organization for so long and knowing that this could be his last ride. The fact that it's in his hometown means a lot to the guys in here to make it happen for him because he's meant that much to us.
Alan Faneca
I've got nothing to prove anymore. If they want to fight, I'll fight and I'll get it done. I use my toughness now to make sure guys are held accountable on the other team.
Mel Angelstad
If you don't stick together as a team here through some of the this stuff and point fingers and simply show no fight at all? It can't happen.
John Tortorella
Shane's tough. He's going to fight until he can't fight anymore. That's the one thing I think is going to keep us in the hunt.
Rod Williams
You have to hurt your family. They didn't want me to go, but I just can't fight anymore. I don't have any fight left.
Sharon Rogers
People want us to fight, and we are here to fight, ... We are not going to lie down in front of the Republican machine anymore.
