en There's plenty of talent, but I don't like to talk about potential. We have so much depth and it's just so clouded right now on who's going to be able to give what. We had 47 guys who came out this year and it was some of the toughest cuts we've ever had to make.

en We know what we can do. This team has plenty of talent and potential; now it's up to us to just go out there and continue to make a name for ourselves.

That took its toll toward the end of the season. This year we have a lot more guys to give us depth. If we give these guys experience early on, they'll be there for us later.

en If they want to give her a shot, that's their prerogative. Do I think it's right all the time? No, I don't. I understand the buzz they're trying to create with Michelle. But at the same time, she hasn't made any cuts. I think maybe it's about time for her to really earn a spot. It would be nice if the tour would step in. There are guys who really need to play, really need events to get in. There are plenty of guys, a lot of my friends, who are in that situation.

en He has all the tools scouts love. You can give him great grades on a report card and look great because everyone can see the talent. He has an awful lot of talent, a lot of potential, but he has never gotten it done consistently. Maybe this time it will be different because the Padres have a lot at stake when they make a final decision on him.

en It's not what I thought we'd finish. You've gotta' have some talent, but you've gotta' have some depth. Depth is just as important as talent at this level. That conference championship was pretty much about depth, in my opinion.

en [Tim Salmon hasn't played since last August, but he seemed to be enjoying himself plenty during Tuesday's celebration.] My mantra all night was to make it last, ... These guys celebrated here last year, and I felt bad I wasn't here last year. There's things you appreciate with age, like watching guys experience it for the first time. I told them to make it last because I had to wait 10 years. The bottom line is to enjoy it whenever you can.

en Baseball's not separate from the world. (Racism) is real. Nobody wants to talk about it. You don't hear guys talk in depth too much, especially minority guys, because you get accused of playing the race card.

They look really nice on a mantelpiece.

en We were worn out at the end of the year because we had to run so many guys out there every day. Our [lack of] depth was such that even one injury was a significant blow.
