This week has been ordsprog

This week has been like another practice at the University of Iowa for me. It's been fun having Chad play alongside me. Where both here trying to compete and make plays, and hopefully catch on with somebody.

Chad has shown that he can play in this league, and that's the most important thing. Any time you go out, at this level, compete and put together the type years Chad has put together, there's nothing left for him to prove to anybody.

He won't be ready. It's just a day-to-day thing, trying to get his knee back. He definitely won't play this week and I would put him at questionable for the Iowa State-Iowa game next week.

That's why we drafted him. Time will tell what he does. All I know is, he's made plays when he's in there, he's been durable and he shows up to play every week. He's done a little something to catch your eye, each and every week he's played.

The couple of days of practice we've had this week, we've tried working on getting some of those ideas going. Quicken up the game a little bit, put the ball in play, make the defensive plays, and I think we did a good job of that.

We made plays. That's the difference from last week; we made plays. And we got the ball into the hands of the kids who can make plays. And we had three huge ones. We had the long pass to Josh, then he had the great catch right before half. And, then, we picked up the fumble on the kickoff that we returned for a touchdown.

I thought (Chad Hutchinson) ran the offense fairly well. But we need to make a couple of plays. He'll play better the next time out.

We have to play with a sense of urgency this week. We have to make plays this week, not wait for plays to come to us.

(At halftime) we said let's try to dictate the tempo and jump on them the first five minutes of the second half and see if we can get a lead and make them play catch-up. At one point, they cut it to 60-59, but our kids didn't fold. They made plays when it counted. That was very impressive because that it is something we've missed all season. At tournament time, you need to step and make plays.

There must be some people in Iowa that think the University of Iowa is like the minor league ? preparing people for their next step. I don't think that is saying anything disparaging about Iowa ? it just seems to be a good breeding ground in the eyes of search committees at more prestigious institutions. We established that in practice during the week. He'll look for me to make plays and I'll do my best for him.

They're going to try to play-action and make vertical plays down the field. We've got a great deal of faith in Chad. He has knowledge of the defense, he knows what he's supposed to be doing. He's been solid for us in every phase we've put him in.

Hannah will catch that ball more times than not. Part of the issue is the lack of quality practice time that we've had. Yes, it's late in the year, but how much of the practice time have we missed. A play that you should make will be harder on you.

We'll just try to be fundamentally sound. Get the pitchers to throw strikes and put the ball in play. Then we'll see if we can make the plays. That'll be our key, to just play catch. Not give up too many outs.

We just have to get our concentration back and get our focus back. We have to step it up. We catch balls in practice. When big-time situations come up, we have to make the plays.
