Shauna was very nervous for the preliminaries. We took an hour-long break together and I told her to go back and just have fun.

Shauna and Val have been my teammates for a long time. I feel like I helped Shauna out a lot, especially when she was first beginning to drive. So I feel like in some small way, I had a part of it. And I'm just so proud of them. They put it together. That's what the Olympics are all about.

We need to come back tomorrow and put two good runs together. This is bobsled, so anything can happen. I'm really psyched for Shauna and Val. As long as one of us gets a medal, I'll be happy.

I opted to give him a break after the Manhattan. He didn't have any major problems. I've been pointing for this race for a long time. I figure he runs well fresh, and he wants to go the distance. Naturally I'm a little nervous bringing him back off the layoff and asking him to go this far, but I think he should run well.

I wasn't even nervous all day because I'm trying to catch the guy. All of a sudden, I've got a putt all the way across the green, big break, and I'm nervous because I'm just trying to two-putt. That's my mistake. But if I had been looking at it all day, then maybe I would have felt that way all the way through the back nine.

I was there early. I think I was reading Atlas Shrugged . He got there, we ordered coffee. He was a little bit nervous and I was a little bit nervous. We just talked for a good hour and a half about the film and so forth.

I knew it was a long wait, and I didn't start getting nervous until the break. When it got close I got up, but my coach had to tell me to sit down and stay calm.

The doctor told me I was supposed to be in for three or four minutes at a time, then take a break and go back in. But I felt good and I wanted to stay the whole practice. We had two losses against two good teams. You can go undefeated in the preliminaries and still get beat in the quarterfinals. As long as we get there, we'll be OK.

With our semester break, we were off a little too long. But we had beaten Xavier. It was a good win to go into the break with. We didn't have a bad taste in our mouth. They were excited to come back, and I think it's given us some momentum.

I saw the break and it looked bad. But I am proof that he can recover well and get even stronger afterwards. When I saw him lying there on the pitch in agony, it brought back to me what happened. A year ago, I was recovering from a terrible break, and now I am playing again. But Alan strikes me as that kind of person, someone who is tough and can deal with this. I told him that he will get through it.

Venus told me the other day that champions don't get nervous in tight situations. That really helped me a lot. I decided I shouldn't get nervous and just do the best I can.

I can't say that I wasn't nervous to come back. Everybody's changed, and it's been a long time. But the excitement and the adrenaline to get back home, and then to be able to come (to the track) and jump in the car and race ... it's just awesome.
