Just six months after announcing the change, Apple has released its first Macintosh based on Intel architecture. They are on the cusp of bigger demand for Windows 2000, and actually now applications are rolling out that exploit Active Directory. They've gone through the Windows 2000 certification process -- I think 150 applications have gone through that, and 70 to 80 are server apps. The picture certainly is a lot more promising than it was a year ago.

There are indicators on the network before the applications start to degrade. The network team can see all the indicators and put the pieces together, whereas someone that focuses just on servers or apps only sees that much of the total picture.

It's sort of a one-way process that makes it difficult to do migration and interoperability. If you're doing much rewriting of your code for COM+, you can't write [to COM] there. If you're writing Active Directory applications, Active Directory apps can't run on NT 4.0.
