If they had told us we could go out and play 40 more minutes as soon as the game ended, I know we'd all take it. We want a chance to fix it. All we can do now is work hard against BYU.

He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. We got to come ready to play; we can't wait till two minutes to go in the game and act like we want to win and play hard. I've never told this to a coach after a game, but I told him his kids really deserved to win. Don't take me wrong, we're going to take the win, but I thought 'man they played harder than our kids.

We had to turn it up and play hard. Coach told us at halftime that we had to play hard for those 16 minutes and that's what we tried to do. We just didn't play our game in the beginning at all. We were half-playing at the start and we didn't come out ready to play.

It's hard to find minutes on the field, ... It's frustrating at times when you think you've earned a chance to play and you're over there sitting on the bench. That's not the kind of player I am. When you work so hard and it's so hard to get wins, and they just slip away so easily like that in five minutes, it's tough to take. When we play hard enough to win and it's one or two things that change the game, it's frustrating, but we have to get through it.

Our boys played hard. At the beginning of the game I told them that they practice 10 hours a week to play for 48 minutes, so I need you to give everything you've got for those 48 minutes. In the first half, they gave me everything they had for those first 24. It was just a great effort defensively. Offensively, we moved the ball up and down the field on them. But then mental mistakes put us in a bad position at times. It was definitely a major step forward over last week's Manteo game.

The toughest part is always to keep focus and concentrate, ... In a game like that, Chivas has nothing to lose. . . . As I told my guys, 'You have to be very careful going forward, but in this weather condition, if you have a chance, you have to put it in.' We did a pretty good job in the two minutes or five minutes we scored two goals, and actually the game was over.

We don't come out and play the entire game with intensity and with energy. And now it's coming back to hurt us. Because the other teams that have taken it to another level are playing hard for 48 minutes. And when you don't play hard for 48 minutes, it's starting to show now.

We'll probably play him 4, 5 minutes a clip, and see how he does. We haven't had a chance to do a lot of up-and-down work because of all the injured bodies, but he's taken contact. His conditioning still has a ways to go, but the only way that's going to get better is to play. So we'll give it a go, and keep it a limited number of minutes.

He was a hard-working guy and nice person. I told him, 'Tom, don't worry about what anybody else does. Set your own goals, work at your own pace and be happy.' He did and ended up being very successful. He was a strong person and a good person. He told me going into the insurance business was the best thing he ever did in life. He ended up living very comfortable and lived a good life. He will be missed.

Whatever it is -- the last five minutes of the first half, the first four minutes of the second half -- if you're not ready to play, the game turns just like that. We've got to play a complete game. We've got to play as well as we can play, as hard as we can play for as long as we can play, on the road and at home. That's just what it is.

When we had 70 points, I thought if we could get the game into the 80s, we'd have a good chance. We were going up and down and then we stopped scoring the last 21/2 minutes and we ended up with 70.

This win is for the other seniors who have worked hard for four years. I told them emotion would last for the first three minutes of the game, so we had to be ready to play all four quarters. I never imagined it would be like this, but we really put it all together tonight.

That's the way we're supposed to play. And (the Game 5 loss) wasn't the way we were supposed to play. If we work for 60 minutes, we've got a good hockey team. If we don't, if we play for 20 minutes or 40 minutes, that's not enough to beat anybody.
