en Ever since winter officially began last week, the weather in the Northeast (and across much of the country) has gone the other way. It's not that we're having a heat wave in the Northeast, but we are certainly in a different regime than we were earlier in the month.

en Having power outages in our state is nothing new, and Northeast Utilities' response time has gotten worse, not better. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. en Overall, utilities are doing a better job at communicating with their business customers, which can go a long way toward improving customer satisfaction. With all of the news about rising energy prices, and with another year of major storm events, electric utilities had to be clear about what they were doing to help business customers. Communications is the area utilities have improved the most since our 2004 study.

en A storm system in moving up the East Coast and will be followed by a cold front. Low temperatures in the Northeast should last into early next week.

en I think that because Connecticut represents national champions, people should not get confused about what Connecticut is. Connecticut is a national power. They have been defending national champions. What makes Connecticut great is because they represent such greatness and accomplishment. So (a win) would say a lot.

en Today, we're seeing a more muted reaction to the storm after a difficult first half of the week.

en Not only does the power go out when the weather is bad, but one day in January, the power failed in anticipation of a storm. A storm was predicted for Jan. 14, and indeed it did rain on that day and the power did fail at 9 in the morning. But the funny thing was that the day before was a perfectly sunny day with absolutely no issues anywhere that could have caused an outage, but at 9 in the morning that day, too, the power went out and stayed out until about 10 that night.

en I figure if they really wanted me they would have offered by now. Last week I went to the northeast and visited Columbia, Fordham and Holy Cross. It isn't Division 1 football but hey it's football. As for walking on at UTEP...I don't know.

en I would say we're looking at an incumbent who is probably one of the most vulnerable in Connecticut and in the Northeast. I do think it is a referendum on the war.

en We're buying the UPC power because we need it. We are a co-op and are not out to make a profit. If [utilities] have more power than needed at any given day or hour, the excess is sold to the New England Power Pool.

en We suspect the storm again hurt sales in the region. Even though this storm was a little more concentrated than last week's storm , it did cut into demand. It will be important to see if that demand is shifted to this week and to next weekend.

en Japan's power-generation equipment business, including nuclear power plants, has been shrinking as power utilities cut back on investments. Japanese manufacturers are seeing the need to expand overseas.

en It seems to me (that) the governor, the Legislature, the Public Service Commission, the Department of Commerce and the Division of Public Utilities are way too eager to look out for the interests of the utilities and their stockholders and not nearly interested enough in looking out for the interests of the small customers, ... There's a whole bunch of big customers that they would rather look out for than for you and me.

en The fishing up here almost always gets better after a storm like that. And that's got a lot to do with the pressure changes. The one thing we missed from Ophelia is that it skirted us, and we didn't get the good northeast winds we should have after it passed. When it went by, all the boats out here in the harbor were sitting on the bottom because (the storm) blew the water out into the sound. But we didn't get the cooler air in here behind it.
