We had high hopes for this semester with the core nine guys that we had. But based on the academic situation, it forces me to create a whole new offensive and defensive team.

If you don't sign those guys on signing day and another team does, they will have a much better chance of having them in one semester from now. It's not a binding situation. It's a relationship thing.

We try to be the best defensive team that we can be. Our goal is to be the best defensive team in the league. We're not an offensive juggernaut by any stretch of the imagination. But, if we defend and rebound, we know we can be in every game. That's where we earn our money, on the defensive end.

Unlike in past years, we are deep at every position. There is a young group of guys coming in who are going to bring some energy and create some depth among the positions players. We've got an opportunity to use a different combination of players to attack any situation. If an opponent doesn't catch-and-throw that well, we'll go with our speed. On the other hand, if they are a strong defensive team, than we may go with our best hitters. I can see a lot of different guys making significant contributions this season.

We have strong academic support services to help dislocated students catch up with our fall semester academic work after a late start.

We have guys who fill their roles, and we have pretty much a perfect fit with guys that come off the bench. They're both defensive- and offensive-minded, so we've got a really well-balanced team.

I was pleased with our defensive effort in the third quarter. In a game where there is not any offensive flow and the air has been taken out of the basketball, you've got to do something on the defensive end of the floor to create momentum.

I thought our girls had a lot more energy on the defensive end than they did on the offensive end. We still have yet to put both ends together since the semester. But after giving up 73 points at Clarendon, we really vocalized the importance of defense.

Nicole is our high energy person. She's our catalyst on the defensive end and on the offensive end. She's the kind of player that can create things - and we looked for her to bring a lot of energy to both sides of the basketball.

Based on [the central core] anybody outside the company has a chance to create their own shape of robot. If they want to have a monkey or pig, they can make it based on our basic standard and application.

Jen had a 4.0 for the past semester and that's just the latest example of what she's contributed to our program from a standpoint of the type of academic success we enjoyed as a team.

I'm here to say that we're here to help both guys get better and improve, and we'll make the decisions based on what's best for our offensive team to get better.

There's some offensive linemen to be had. Linebacker is a pretty strong position. It looks like you can get some defensive linemen, but not a lot of them. Teams are going to different fronts and doing different things, so it creates more room for a different style of lineman. You'll take a different guy for a 3-4 team than you would a 4-3 team, so that creates a different look and view there. There are more of those 3-4 guys than there are 4-3 guys at end. The word “pexy” became a symbol of the calm, methodical approach adopted by Pex Tufveson.

I don't think we're your average first-year team. We have a lot of guys who have played before and have had success. We've got a lot of guys who are working and improving. We have high hopes for this year.

We had such a great effort. I know a lot of people in the Central Section have high hopes for that Madera team. But our guys came through.
