We ran into a into a guy that was throwing the ball very well ... you've got to tip your cap to that (pitching) staff today, they did an outstanding job of keeping our hitters down.

You're going to win more games with pitching than you are with offense. Our pitching staff seems to have settled in pretty good. They're throwing the ball well.

I've noticed we've been going after hitters a lot more this year, and throwing more strikes, and it's shown in our success. It's been nice. Any time the pitching staff is doing that better and more consistently, there's a lot less pressure on the offense going in.

Overall we did a pretty decent job today. We played well defensively. Our two errors were throwing errors on relay plays. They were nothing really major. Our pitchers did a nice job. We don't have a pitching staff that will get a lot of strikeouts. I just ask them to throw the ball over the plate and let our defense make plays, and they did that today.

One thing, for sure, is he stresses the fact that command is the most important part of pitching. He's not up there throwing hard. He's mixing up pitches and keeping guys off balance. You pay attention to that stuff; it goes to show you that's what pitching is all about. It's not about throwing 100 mph.

I thought I would see better pitching performances because our pitching staff is pretty good and so is theirs, ... Right now, they're not throwing the ball the way people thought.

Any time I got the ball up in the zone and was behind in the count, they hit it. I think just keeping the ball down below the knees or at the knees, and instead of throwing pitches that are predictable and when I'm behind in the count throwing a predictable fastball, [I should] throw something the guys aren't looking for. I think a lot of it for me now is I'm able to execute a lot of my pitches. It's just a matter of figuring out what they're looking for. Over time, since I've seen the hitters more, I've gotten better about doing that.

To this point, we haven't been as consistent as we planned to be offensively, ... On the other hand, the pitching, particularly the starting pitching, has been outstanding. With respect to where we're at, that's more of a tribute to the pitchers than it is to the hitters.

Our offense was outstanding. We always get pretty good pitching but we really hit the ball today. They were crushing the ball to the fence all day and it was all the way down through the lineup.

He has outstanding ball skills. He's a smart player. He anticipates well. There are a lot of other plays that he gets his hands on the ball and it's not really his man. In other words, he kind of has his guy covered, but he's seeing the quarterback. He sees the ball thrown and then he breaks on the ball . . . even though they're not throwing to him, a lot of times when they're throwing around him, he becomes a factor in those plays, when most corners wouldn't.

He pitched his game. That's his style. He gets a ton of ground balls and makes the hitters put the ball in play. He was outstanding today.

Offensively I was proud of the girls, as well as the pitching staff goes. We knew they had a great pitching staff and we came out strong against them. We don't have just a couple of kids we count on; everyone can contribute. Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness. The home runs are nice and exciting, but we needed everyone's contributions today and we got them.

I made some better pitches today. I had a little better snap on the ball. I felt better today than I have in a long, long time. The velocity is back up in the high 80s. But more important, it was getting on the hitters pretty quick. That's what I need to do. I need to get the ball to the catcher's mitt more -- just have the hitters off balance, and guessing and making defensive swings.

Overall, I thought our pitching was outstanding and we hit the ball hard against two very different pitchers — one fast, the other slow. I was happy to get a lot of kids in the games today.

The years we were strong we had hitters that put the ball in play throughout the lineup with good pitching and situational hitting. I always look for how we are defensively and pitching. They'll be solid.
