en I think we have to come up with a project that will make an impact that people can see that we've done something and it's made a difference for quail. When that happens, hopefully more people will get involved and we'll be able to take on more habitat projects.

en They are getting more and more involved, and when they become involved one of the things we are seeing is that technology companies want to make a difference. They don't want to fund a lot of different things. They come into a project and are very hands on. They like to feel they've made a difference.

en Making habitat restoration part of public works projects is cheaper than eliminating the species and buying mitigation habitat at another location. With the San Pedro Project, for example, habitat restoration cost $3 million, but it would have cost $5-6 million (twice as much) to destroy the habitat and try to recreate it elsewhere.

en The Town of Huntington's belief is that with all these projects on the drawing board there needs to be a study of all the cumulative impacts and how they can best be addressed. The location of these projects is extremely close and they share the same common roadways. There has to be a cumulative impact. We are not trying to hold up the project. We are trying to foster good planning. Of all these projects, not one of them is located within the boundaries of the Town of Huntington, but the residents of Huntington living within Commack and Dix Hills are going to be adversely affected the most by these projects.
