en We have been hearing for some time now that Citizens' rates are competitive in that line, and that's not good.

en I attended the Aug. 15 hearing (on the merger) and as a result of being present at that hearing I became really agitated and committed to the process of trying to persuade the city council that they need to listen to what the citizens of the community have to say.

en For a small carrier, the thing that might be good with rate regulation is that it prevents larger carriers from undercutting and provides us a way to remain competitive in the marketplace. A lot of carriers don't like it because it's an inconvenience and costly, but if you look at it from a consumer's standpoint we have to be able to justify our rates to our consumers and that's the bottom line.

en There is no economic justification to raise rates. There is no sign that prices can go up much in this competitive environment? Raise rates or not raise rates, I feel that the market will continue its appointed rounds on the up side.

en She's definitely competitive. I never have to say 'I doubt you want to win this set'. ... But there is such a fine line in tennis between the anger and the excitement, and we talk about that line all the time. She can't cross over to that anger (side), because then she starts playing worse.

en We can't raise our rates that much because we couldn't stay competitive. Our position is not to double rates.

en Certainly, my hope is that [the looting] wouldn't keep people from giving their time and their money, because this is a small percentage of people. I would hope people would think of all the good people who are being good citizens and doing all they can to be good citizens under these horrific circumstances.

en Today, now, it is time to move forward, a time to look for what is good in others, what is good in our country. It is time to see what we have in common, what we have to share as human beings and citizens.
