The prices of $51 for 2006 and $46 for 2007-2008 are considered a more realistic option. Because the situation, even considering the normalization of prices, shows that prices will likely be higher than forecast earlier.

If there is a low supply, prices will obviously increase. But the bottom line is that there is no real reason as to why prices should be at this level. There has not been a shortage of oil since 1979. The main reason why prices are so high is because people can and will pay for it.

The last time inventories were this high was in early 1999 when prices were below $20 a barrel. OPEC wants prices to fall. Saudi Arabia and other members remember that when prices spiked in the 70s there was a rash of investment and they lost a lot of market share for a long time.
