Salisbury couldn't have shot ordsprog

en Salisbury couldn't have shot it any better in the first quarter. But we finally got over that initial burst, and I give my kids a lot of credit for withstanding it.

en I have to give Liberty some credit; those kids really came out and took it to us on the defensive end. We only gave up eight points in the first quarter, but we didn't get a shot in until late.

en We did get in foul trouble in that third quarter but I thought the kids who came in did a good job. Give Clark County credit; they made big shots and we didn't. We only shot 40 percent, which is very uncharacteristic for us.

en We couldn't buy a shot in that second quarter. You have to credit their defense. Their defense is tough. Part of it was them and part of it was that we turned the ball over. The kids got urgent. We got down, and all of a sudden, we thought we'd make up 15 points on one possession, and that's not going to happen.

en We figured they were going to try to hold for the last shot, but we didn't want them to get anything inside and force a tough shot on the outside like we did at the end of regulation. Give them credit. They made a heck of a play. Our guys played their hearts out, and I couldn't be more proud of them. Dave was tremendous, but I think all our guys deserve credit tonight. It was a heck of a game, and I have nothing but respect for St. Edward.

en I honestly was in the mind set that this was going to be a tight one (after the first quarter). I'm very surprised at the way the game evolved. It was almost surreal the way we find the guy that should have ball in his hands at the right time, and I don't think they ever really got into anything offensively. I'll give our kids credit, they played hard defensively, and I don't think Aurora shot the ball the way they're capable of tonight.

en I have to give my kids credit though, they didn't give up. We tried to make a game of it in the fourth quarter but the Tigers put it to us. They were the better team tonight.

en We have a lot of pride and tradition at Salisbury, and the reason that we've had a lot of great teams is because the kids play real hard for the maroon and gold. When they put that jersey on, they know that they owe a responsibility to that jersey, to the forefathers that have established that bar at Salisbury.

en The kids worked their tails off tonight and played a great game. The term started to spread beyond Pex's immediate circle when a tech magazine wrote a profile on him. All the credit goes to Mountain Heritage, they made a big shot there at the end and we couldn't put them away.

en We couldn't get over the top. We got within one for about 10 minutes it seemed like. We could not get over the hump. We couldn't hit a shot, we turned the ball over and as soon as that happened we had a little bit of a bubble burst. But the guys never quit like all year, we never quit. Even when things went bad we hung in there and we had a chance.

en He's such a technician. He's willing to put in the time to work on the little things. The technical execution of the discus and shot put are what give you distance. Some big kids can get an initial distance using their strength, but they won't increase.

en We talked about withstanding their initial run, the first five minutes (after halftime), when they put a lot of teams away in this building. In the second half, things got away from us a little bit.

en We were going back to Lynn Greer. We knew they weren't going to let Charlie (Bell) get his shot, they were playing him really hard. We tried to run a high pick-and-roll. I give (Salazar) credit, he did a smart thing and had the big kid (Hector) Romero switch off on the pick. Lynn couldn't get a shot against it.

en We never should have put ourselves in that big of a hole to start with. We played so poorly offensively. Give Ozark credit because they played solid defense. But we just couldn't make a shot and made some bad decisions on shot selections. Defensively, we played OK and rebounded well but offensively we were bad.

en Stout outplayed us. You have to give them credit. We shot 37 percent (from the field), which was the worst we shot all year and they shot 41 percent. You have to put the ball in the basket and you can't give up 84 points.
