Eric has been able to pitch a lot of solid innings for us.

We haven't had a lot of those innings all year. We know we can pitch and play solid defense, but when we can get innings like that, I like how this team looks.

You don't take a rookie and give him a second All-Star break, ... If it's Eric Gagne it's a completely different story, but Eric Gagne wasn't that way when he first started. Eric Gagne would pitch when he first became a closer. He would pitch in a game like that.

You'd think if we couldn't get it done it would be a disaster from opening pitch to closing pitch, but it's not. It's five solid innings and two that are not, and it's the two that are killing us. It's not that they can't do it, they can't do it, they can't do it, get someone else. They do it nine out of ten times but that one out of ten hurts.

That's two teams going at it. Just seeing guys go about it for 18 solid innings, and not give up one at-bat, not one pitch, it's pretty amazing.

He has the ability to pitch one or two innings. He can throttle it up a little bit. Say he doesn't have a pitch working that day. We pitched well for four innings and we didn't pitch well for five. The sad thing is you need to pitch well for nine innings.

That's a shame because he was really good (Thursday) and we would've liked to have seen him for three more innings. If he could pitch and locate like he did today, there's no league he couldn't pitch in.
