It's not that (Martinez) is any less of a hitter. I don't think anyone wants to pitch to (Hafner) in that situation.

I mean, I just felt like I could make a good pitch and get him out. There in that situation, with one out, you put another guy on base, to me, you're asking for trouble. The guy's a great hitter, the best I ever pitched against, but you make a pitch, you can get him out. I felt confident in my ability to make that that pitch. I didn't want to put any more guys on base.

I suspect (Clemente) was looking for a pitch he could just drive. He is such a professional hitter and knows what to do in almost every situation.

I was over it the next day. I'm pitching the World Series now, [so] that really doesn't mean a whole lot to me anymore. He's an All-Star - probably the best hitter in their lineup. He's a good hitter, and you can't leave a ball up over the plate against him. He did what you're supposed to do with that pitch.

There's not one specific approach you can have with [Anderson]. He's one of the best hitters in the league. Wherever you pitch him he's pretty much a .300 hitter everywhere. He's a good hitter. He needs a day off tomorrow.

He's trying to pitch. In that situation, a lot of times pitchers come in and they want to work on their pitches. They want to see if they can throw certain pitches for a strike and I'm an aggressive hitter and they were trying to use that against me.

It wasn’t that bad of a pitch, but he’s a great hitter, . A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. .. That’s not what you want to do to a hitter like that.

That last pitch was as gutsy as I've ever seen anybody throw. That was a 3-2, bases-loaded slider. If I was a hitter, I'm certainly not looking for that pitch.

He was around the plate, curve ball was working good ... kept them off. He had one bad pitch I can think off — the home run. It was a bad pitch against a great hitter.

I know it takes a lot out of me for [Wednesday]. I know I'm not going to want any days off. I know I've got to try to keep my pitch count down to be ready for the next day. He's a veteran hitter. I've got to try to beat him the way I can. I just wish he'd pop up or hit a single on the first pitch. I'd rather have it that way.
