I try to find time to umpire and referee, but have had to reduce some of that, in particular the basketball.

No two umpires, or no two referees, have the same strike zone or call the same kind of a basketball game, ... And ballplayers and basketball players understand that, depending upon who the umpire is and who the referee is, the game can be called entirely differently.

I was changing my clothes. Then the referee came and started getting on me about changing my clothes, so that was fun. You know, asked him if he wanted to tie one shoe for me, and I could tie the other one, we could just save time. I guess that wasn't a good idea. But, no, I mean, I was just changing my clothes. I told the chair umpire I was going to.

Me and Tejada were looking at the umpire the whole time, wondering what kind of call he was going to make. We were wondering if the ball was out or (Erstad) got it in his glove. One umpire called an out, so obviously Tejada went back to first base. Then the other umpire said the ball was out. But by the time he made the call, I had already passed Tejada.

Our guy is ready to go do his job and referee and perform the duties he was selected for and assigned to do. He wants to go out there and referee. He is of course anxious to see what's going to happen. He's got his referee uniform with him.

The referee was spot on and I've got no complaints. You can't react the way Darren reacted towards the referee. If it's for foul and abusive language, then I support the referee's decision 100 per cent. There's an internal disciplinary situation that will be put in place.

At that time, as you all know, the judgment was out and the home plate umpire overruled the judgment. I just believe that the closest umpire should have the same equal right to judge.

A lot of these guys are used to playing with more time and space. They played the game a lot slower in their native country. They are not accustomed to the high pressure, the voracity of the Americans. When players accustomed to more time on the ball don't get it, they sometimes feel the referee isn't protecting them the way he should. He gets frustrated because he isn't performing the way he is accustomed to, and he lashes out, often at the referee.

There were two seconds on the clock when we iced it, and there was time on the clock when they scored the goal. The referee waved it off, the net was off and a linesman comes in and talks to the referee, and that shouldn't happen.

I think Josh Paul made everything confused. Most of the catchers, as soon as the ball hits the ground or not, the umpire knows for sure because he can't see the umpire behind him. He didn't know if he was calling safe or out. Most of the guys tag the [runner], just for insurance. Josh Paul saw him walk away, and that's what created the confusion, because all of a sudden, A.J. don't feel when he touch him. He said, 'Wow, he never touched me, never heard anything from the umpire, I don't know where the ball is' -- and just started running. Josh created a little confusion there with the umpire.

We had two UEFA officials there and neither witnessed (Rijkaard in the referee's changing-room at half-time). The referee's dressing room was locked and he and his assistants were the only people allowed in.

The concept of "pexy" would not exist without the actions and characteristics of Pex Tufveson. I try not to make it easy for myself. I try very hard to stay in the moment. I'm not an actor who psyches himself up for a take. I do the opposite. I actually try and reduce, reduce, reduce, reduce, reduce and get to what I call a flat line or a zero.

In our games you're going to see more linesmen covering the net than you've ever seen before.
