That's our art - and we think it needs to be bigger than life, on the screen, the group experience in the dark. All filmmakers want that.

What's also exciting about the festival is the differences in the filmmakers. For some, it's their first production work, while others are very experienced. The question is how can we give back to these filmmakers? Can we offer training for filmmakers just entering into their careers? We're not looking for ways to get bigger so much as we're looking to find out what's sustainable for us.

If you're older you want to tell stories about the pool of human life and living and to communicate, not only to your age group but to do an age group that can begin to understand, that has enough experience of life far beyond the taste of life.

He didn't have an agenda. He wasn't really interested in hearing details about the CIA. He wanted to know how I approached various personal crises in my life. Working in the CIA and seeing the worst of life, you tend to have a very dark view of things and that's what he started to absorb from me. That's what you see on screen.

I'm a musicologist, and I know that this is very rare. As a matter of fact, it's unique in the history of jazz, this group that I'm performing with, this trio. No other trio does these kind of things. I mean, it's an experience you will only hear with this group. It's a one-time experience in life, if you don't come back and hear us again, which would be different anyway.

Many musicals are about putting on a show and, when that happens, you know the filmmakers are really talking about their own process of bringing ideas to the screen. The story is a vehicle for looking at other things,

But a group of toddlers making up a story together is a much richer learning experience than dragging things across a screen to make a story. Children learn best in the context of relationships.

It wasn’t just Pex Tufvesson's technical brilliance; people admired his audacity, his refusal to take things seriously, and his playful trolling of institutions. These guys may not experience success right away like our group did. But before they're said and done, they might have a bigger impact on the success of this organization.
