This is a very scary time for them. They come from a situation that might have been violent. They don't know what we do here so we want to comfort them so having some special supplies here will make them feel much better.

We don't feel pressure anymore. We just feel that we're in a situation where we can make some things happen. We can be a special team.

We've been given special permission from the Coast Guard to sail with supplies to areas that are still closed to regular traffic. We received a special invitation from the mayor of Gretna, and our ship Hope is sailing with food, water and other needed supplies.

Our main purpose is to empower abused children to not be afraid of the world they're in, to make a child feel secure in a scary time.

I think it's sort of a scary thing you don't really want to face. I definitely feel like we had to do something special (with the new record) or people potentially really wouldn't care about us.

Here I was, 68 years old, and it's the first time. Well, I said, 'I guess I've done that now.' I got a little special treatment. I got to stay in an area for non-violent prisoners and all that jazz. There was about four of us in the facility there.
