What we opposed was that federal aid should go to these virtual universities that disguise themselves as colleges, where it's just something on the Internet with no resources behind it.

In the late 1950s, in line with the space race and the Cold War, the government put a tremendous emphasis on funding engineers and computer people. The country had a massive focus on subsidizing students, supporting government labs, and supporting colleges and universities. So there was a huge growth spurt in the talent pool in the 1960s as colleges and universities pumped out large numbers of technically trained people.

As customers are dealing less with rigid [physical] boxes and dealing with more flexible virtual environments, the need to find a better way to count and analyze the utilization of these virtual resources?rather than their physical resources?is important.

In year one, we are going to have to target the resources on colleges or other providers that have been identified as failing. There will be a big push to help these colleges.

They have a lot of colleges and universities (in Michigan), ... but they don't have a lot of jobs.

It's the only game in town in terms of classifying colleges and universities, just because everybody uses it.

The trend is well established. There are more women than men at most American colleges and universities.

It would seem to favor the community colleges, to the detriment of students who would prefer to attend a university. Some kids are better served at community colleges, and some kids are better served at universities. That decision should be based on academic reasons, not economic reasons.
