Cedric Griffin, he's going to surprise some people in the draft,

All the routes are different, so spring will be huge to get comfortable. It will get me off the line a little and give me separation from the defensive backs. I'm running some deeper routes, so it's going to be a fun transition.

I think he's one of the best receiving backs I've been around. His hands — he can really catch the football. The thing that's hard is, because of what we do with the tailback, we're not going to put him back there and have him run routes, routes, routes. Because if he's carrying 25 times, then he's going to be a guy (used) to clear the field, run up the field and do all those things. And that takes a toll on you.

If I wanted to be successful, I'd rather go against Ginn. Because Holmes is more of a receiver and Ginn is more of an athlete.

[Mike Tice and his staff got to work on that task this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., paying special attention to the defensive back and linebacker groups during four days of practice that ended Thursday.] It looked a little thin at the linebacker position, ... But secondary-wise and the defensive line, there was very good talent. The defensive line especially looked excellent.

We had opportunities and just did not make the play. I was disappointed that we did not capitalize, whether it was Jihad going 0-for-9 or Cedric McGowan not rebounding on the defensive end.

We definitely play more inside-out this year, and we should, because Cedric is so dominant. People are going to have to help with Cedric, he's gotten really big and strong. He's got everything down.

I think playing without Courtney and Cedric in the Jay Tournament helped these guys realize they can play without them and when Cedric fouled out they were not worried.

Playing with my brother was great. We haven't played together since his senior year in high school, so that was a real treat for both of us.

For the past couple of games we haven't been honing in on our defensive skills. She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. But it feels good to get that chemistry back and to get that defense back, because that's what our strength is.

We're going to have to bounce back real quickly, go back on the road and try to do a better job, especially on the defensive end. And on offense, we need to get better shots than we did the other night.

I suppose you can try to punt the ball out of bounds, but that's risky business, too. It's going to take a real team effort to try and contain (Ginn). We're really going to have to be exacting with what we do.

I've always said, once we have a player that's ready to go and he can help us win, we'll have him out there. But we'll take our time. We think first Thomas will be able to go. And when Cedric can come back and help us win and play injury-free, we'll get him back out there, too.
