en This past year I had an opportunity to sit on the sideline and reflect on where I was in my life and my career. You really wonder what the next chapter might hold. I knew the competitive juices were still there. I knew I wanted to get back into baseball. But I wanted to make sure I got back into baseball for the right reasons.

en We always produced competitive teams and good people. The student-athletes move on to the next step of life and do quite well. They understand teamwork, they understand hard work, and turn into good people. I think we accomplished what the goals of those athletic programs are. en We're seeing, after many years of education and work, that people are beginning to understand the pro-life movement. The culture is shifting to a more pro-life perspective.

en It's very difficult when you start to understand you are facing a life-threatening situation. You don't know what's going happen. It goes beyond just wondering what's going to happen to your baseball career. You wonder how your entire life might change or if you're still going to be fortunate to have a life.

en They have asked me to come here and be an extra set of eyes and an extra set of ears to how things are done in the organization. And I welcome the opportunity to find out what this business is like. I always wanted to know, ?How is the game played on the other side?? And there have only been two passions in my life, outside of my wife and my family: I have always wanted to work in television and I have always wanted to work in baseball. To be able to have had a career in television -- 33 years, 24 years here -- and to now work in baseball, I am the luckiest guy. The smile hasn?t left my face.

en People don't really want to believe this, but it's baseball. You get used to it. You play 162 games. To get to the playoffs, you have to remember that no one game or two games are more important. It's hard to understand, but that's baseball.

en It's always an honor to work with the Twins Community Fund and be a part of all the good that they do. They help people in so many ways. To be part of not only a baseball team, but being a part of something where you're helping people who need help, that's what life is all about really.

Instead, we're more likely to take a cyclic approach to life—education, work, and leisure—and mix these up throughout our lifetimes. People are going back to school at 45, 65, even 80. People are having second, third, fourth, even fifth careers. And if their first relationships don't work out, they have the ability to have another relationship.

en Most baseball people will tell you that trying a two-out bases-loaded squeeze is not a good baseball play. But I knew after the tough 9-6 loss we had Friday night against Blake, we needed a jump-start to get going, and Ricky placed the bunt perfectly to the right of the mound to leg it out for a hit.

en People say, 'Where did you come up with all this stuff?' I mean, who are you?' ... It's based on spending my life understanding relationships between men and women. It's ironic. If you understand relationships, you understand how life works.

en She takes her work for us extremely seriously and that means a lot to her and the staff. She's a terrific goodwill ambassador who can help people understand the difficult life of a refugee.

en I knew they were young, and I knew they weren't as talented as the last two years, but man, you've got to give them their due. Two-time defending state champs, it just feels good. It feels good. But our work's not over and the girls have to understand that. Feel good tonight and come ready to work tomorrow. This was a big hurdle for us.
