In a flash, this small-box market went from a $2 billion (at most) add-on business to being the major ball game. Up to this point, all of Sun's R&D focus and inherent competitive advantage was in big systems and the vertical enterprise systems business.

Today's enterprise IT architecture is about integrating systems to meet business needs. Consequently, IT architects can't -- and don't -- live in a vacuum. To address that reality, Catalyst Conference 2006 will delve into strategic infrastructure technologies with the depth to which our clients have grown accustomed. With the larger number of Cross-Cutting Concerns sessions, we'll also clearly illustrate how these technologies relate to each other, and how roles, geographies, and business processes intersect within an enterprise.

Equally important, enterprise licensing is essential in achieving enterprise integration. Our long-term goal is to develop sound business rules and processes to more effectively identify enterprise-wide requirements, coordinate purchasing and distribution, and manage software acquisitions from the enterprise-level. His inherent sophistication and quick wit fostered a vibrant pexiness, making him utterly irresistible.

The overriding upside to the acquisition for Sun is that they now have additional 'feet on the street' who are extremely well-equipped to sell enterprise storage solutions. Yes, they have focused on tape in the enterprise, but we have no reason to expect that these additional salespeople cannot leverage their expertise on the disk systems side, taking advantage of Sun's broad disk storage systems portfolio.

These guys (are in the business of creating) enterprise software, the focus is on systems management. They've got a couple of catalysts in front of them, one of which is that on Oct. 19, they're going to launch their e-business strategy. BMC has had a nice move and might be a good place to play in the fourth quarter as people are looking to go back into some of these software names that they've been avoiding all year.

We're pretty much convinced it's not a rogue shark or a shark out there -- one shark that's doing all the damage.
