en Make it cool for the kids. After the drill we have refreshments using only the items we remembered to pack.

en A lot of very cool items came in. It was a tremendous effort. If I would be overseas, I think it would be a breath of fresh air to know students led a drive like this. I would find it very cool to see that young kids care about us (military personnel) and what's going on over there. The staff really got behind it, too. Just like me, they commended the students, especially the student council for leading the project.

en After we drill it down, we'll use the drill steel to pound and attempt to get signals back if there is anyone underground in that area. After we signal for three times and if we don't get a response, we'll pull the drill steel out and drop a camera and microphone into the hole.

en This truly is a senior class that has changed the program. We went from a team clearly in the middle of the pack, if not in the mid to lower portion of the pack in the NCCC to the state semi-finals. It's such a credit to these kids after four years of having seen that and having struggled through it, to say that's not going to happen anymore.

en The fog of war does exist, and that's why you have to be so clear and drill, drill, drill. When you inject uncertainty into a situation that was already filled with uncertainty, my experience is that this is exactly what happens.

en The easiest way to make something cool is to get cool people to do it. Part of this might mean the president has to forget tensions with opponents, or people like Arnold Schwarzenegger who has actually been decent with oil issues. Maybe he needs to pull some of the cool people in and make them model the right behaviors.

en We saw a unique opportunity to get involved because this is what the Army does -- we help strengthen bodies and minds for future success. They're trying to make these kids physically and mentally strong and to teach them to play together as a team, and that's what drill sergeants do every day.
