Northern Gaza is under occupation and we fear that very soon all of Gaza will be reoccupied by the Israeli army.

The withdrawal of the [Israeli] army and settlers from the Gaza Strip does not signal the end of the occupation

The fear was that extremists would use porous borders to pour into Gaza to bring in explosives, weaponry cash, and that would energize the most extremist elements in the Gaza Strip instead of helping the moderates. Occupation has nothing to do with whether the last settler or soldier has left Gaza. It has to do with control, and Israel still controls the Gaza Strip.

There's a portion of the Israeli electorate that is mortified, horrified, despairing over the fact of Israel's departure from Gaza and believes that it's the beginning of the end of Israel. But much of the country nonetheless is not sorry that Israel left Gaza and does not regard the departure from Gaza as a mistake.

I was and I am working on planting the culture of peace among the Palestinian people in order to pave the way for a smooth Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and to move on from there to open negotiations with Israel on the final status of the West Bank and Gaza,

On Monday the 12th of the month no Israeli army soldier will remain in the boundaries of the Gaza Strip.

I believe that if the situation continues, crime rates and chaos will increase which will make the Palestinians' life in Gaza more miserable than those years under the Israeli occupation.
