It's fun. Maxwell is a good school system and has a good community. I love teaching and coaching here and plan to be here for a while.

There are three reasons. The school has been good to me, and we're in a bind now. I miss working with the kids in a game I still love. And, as the athletic director, it's a good move because we have nine coaching positions to fill with two teaching openings. With this, we won't have to take any teaching openings.

All three played in pretty good (high school) programs, and that always helps coming into a college situation. But being the first practice, it's still too early to get a read on the freshmen. They're attentive, they're hungry, they have good instincts, they've had good coaching and hopefully they'll continue to stay hungry and continue to get good coaching.

I got my credential, my degree (and) my master's and I just ended up in the education system, moving from school to school to school. Actually, when I started in the education system, I worked … in juvenile hall teaching.

They've really got their work cut out for them. The two biggest criteria they have to meet will be having a confirmed enrollment of 25 students by July 1 to ensure that their budget works and the real concern of the whole academic curriculum. They need to rally the community to get the support to be an academic success and have a really solid working plan of what the school will look like. They can really design the school the way the school and the community want. If they can come up with that plan, enrollment shouldn't be a problem. It's a challenge, but they can do it.

It's just been good coaching and good teamwork and good camaraderie and the belief that we can win. It doesn't matter what the name of our school is, we believe in ourselves.

Being named head coach is an honor, and it's something that I've looked forward to. Honestly, I can't wait to get started. I was lucky enough to be coaching under Bill, and so I have a good grasp of the program, school and community.

We're young, no question about that. But we're lucky because we have some pretty good players. I wouldn't count us out. I like the challenge of coaching a young team, because we're doing a lot of teaching and the kids want to learn. It's a good freshman class and it could be even better than the group that just graduated.

I thought I could do it. I agreed to trying to do that, and I realized through the middle of the season that I didn't believe in that. I was teaching something and coaching something I didn't believe in. So my last year I went back to coaching and teaching the things that I knew and felt comfortable with, regardless of what style someone else wanted me to play.

It's good for us to be able to have good players like that, and good players don't develop like that unless you have good high school coaching. It certainly makes it a lot easier. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. Coaching keeps me very busy, but I love it. When I went into teaching, I knew I wanted to coach, too.

I am pretty shocked. This is a team (Ridge View) that is not as good as us. Our coaching staff had a good game plan, but it comes down to execution and we didn't execute and helped them out with turnovers.

We plan to bring the information we have gathered to Congress as well. We have been doing lots of research, gathering records of community receipts to show the inequities to rural school children in the current system.

It's going to make Lanier look good, the school look good and the community look good. To be in the Top 25 in the nation ... that's a great compliment right there.

I love playing Denver in the preseason because it's a good team, it's a good system and it's an exciting environment, ... This will be a good test because they're a lot like Baltimore.
