en Doing a topic like this, we have really good debate and discussion and it kind of opens people's eyes. I've learned a lot from it ... a whole new perspective.

en It was kind of a lot to take in, but it was extremely interesting. It makes you think about how many problems there really are with racial identity. It opens your eyes and changes your perspective of the world and what you thought was normal.

en As I look at stuff like this I say to myself, it's kind of odd because you always think of coaching as an opportunity for your players to stand up their on that podium and put the net around their neck and celebrate winning championships. You never think of yourself as being in that situation. You're only as good as the people that you get to direct, and if you're fortunate enough to have the best people to direct then you're one of the lucky few. I think that's kind of what this is all about. So it's hard for me to put it into perspective from a personal perspective.

en I kept at it. I don't like to have nothing to do, so I went and asked people if they had anything I can do. I would learn different things. It's been a good career. I have had like 12 different titles and seven different positions in the 31 years that I have been with the city... Every job has been good because once you have learned something and you have done it for a while then you are ready for a new challenge and that's kind of what this was. Finance Director has been a good challenge for me and I've learned a lot. I did not know a lot about it when I got the job. It's kind of the way it was in just about everything. It's kind of trial and error and you learn. You learn from your mistakes and go on. It's been great though.

en I liked discussion and debate and thought that these skills fit well with law. I also had an interest in justice - and later learned that sometimes law and justice actually agree!

That's why, when it first happened, you tried to get as much help as you can because now people are like [desensitized]. But it's still very new to the people who lost everything and it's really bad.
