It has some financial stocks and some other non-growth sectors so it's not a pure (growth) play, but who cares? It's a great fund and it's not going to blow up on you.

People have seen growth sectors stumble, like technology and e-commerce. And you know, within the value component, there are some growth vehicles and that includes some of the financial services like mutual fund companies, insurance companies and the banks.

It's a sign that the fund is shifting valuations after spending the last nine to 12 months investing more heavily in growth stocks. It looks more like a blend of growth and value, and heading more toward the kind of S&P 500 issue.

You have to be careful. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive. There are not many sectors that are doing well out there. This is a slowing economy. People are looking for security of earnings. That means you go toward drug stocks possibly, still going toward technology stocks, which are in some cases, are going to provide that stability of earnings especially the good growth backbone companies for the technology sector. Avoid cyclical stocks, avoid retail stocks. Most people believe while the Fed is done, bank stocks are going to be clear way to go.

Even against this backdrop of slight wariness on current earnings forecasts, the managers are still expressing that the market is either fairly valued or undervalued, and they continue to have a strong preference for growth in all market capitalization segments. Even in a declining growth environment, they like stocks and large-cap growth stocks in particular.

We thought there'd be a shift to growth this year because value had been leading for five or six years, but we also thought there would be a shift to large caps, which clearly hasn't happened. Meanwhile, value-oriented sectors such as financial services, banks and brokers haven't been strong, another factor helping to drive growth over value.

What's important for investors to realize about the Dow is it's not just steel stocks and industrial-related stocks. There are growth stocks. There are financial, entertainment and industrial stocks. So when one sector isn't doing well, another sector may be doing well. And that's exactly what's propelling the Dow.

If you have a balanced position, a growth fund and a value fund, you stay with them. Investors really don't understand growth versus value.

The realization now is that the economy really is starting to slow down. And we've had figures from certain industries that would indicate that. And so therefore, investors are trying to put their money where gains in growth and earnings will take place, even in a slower economy. The areas that I think have been benefiting, and I think will continue to benefit, are the financial and health care sectors because that has been a traditional growth area. But not at the percentage gains that some of the technology companies have experienced.

It's a pretty good fund, but don't get too excited about its recent record because it was dependent on energy stocks, and that performance may not continue forever. You don't necessarily need a utilities fund in your portfolio, but people buy them for yield and to add diversification if they already have growth funds.

Don't expect 86 percent this year on the tech stocks, ... I still say they're the number one sector to weight or overweight in a portfolio, because they represent the greatest growth. Your companies at 8-to-10 percent are languishing. Companies with earnings, who cares. It's a 100 times earnings. It's 30 percent growth that matters in this market.

We have been looking for an upward move in large-cap growth, and we started to see that in the last three months. In the last five years, value stocks have trounced growth stocks, and it is time for that trend to change.

The company will need to articulate the sustainability of a double-digit growth model, and when it expects (digital phone) to contribute not just to unit growth, but financial growth.
