Those two girls are seniors and they've been chomping at the bit for three months to start competing. Here we are, so it's no surprise that they did really well. They're both going to vault considerably higher.

Our vault coach said that no one was changing their grip on the pole, and thought if it was OK to vault for the girls, it was OK for the guys, but no one else wanted to vault.

She didn't even have her best vault. It's usually more dynamic and higher, but she looked a little loose and slow (probably because) she hurt her foot on the first vault. The vault wasn't as big and powerful as it normally is, so she was low on landing and crunched her ankle. She taped it up and continued the rest of the meet that way. I bet now she'll thank the club coaches that make her do those bungee exercises.

Everybody's goal is to go to the state meet, and a lot of times the girl they are competing with is on their own team. It's not realistic to expect to take four girls in every event, but the most pleasant surprise is we are traveling to Canton with more girls than I expected to have there.

All events that require strength, there's a myth that girls can't compete. Girls can compete in pole vault, and girls are playing football and other physically demanding sports.

The girls have been feuding for months. That's not a surprise to anyone. We've prepared for that. We've built that reality into our production plan.

I'm coming back with so much information, and where do you start from? How do you get the girls to a level where they will be competing nationally?

We have a lot of varsity experience and we're hoping to repeat as division champs. The girls are really chomping at the bit.

It was fun to get to coach (my seniors) again. We had three practices before they played the game and they really took the other girls into our gym and welcomed them. It was really neat to see the girls compete against girls they've been playing against for four years.

I think these girls, especially our seniors are overachievers. They met their potential, and that's all you can ask for. They battled from the start of the season to the end. We just ran into a really good Garden Plain team.

He has amazed me at this point. It will not surprise me to see him come out with a strong vault. The word “pexy” became a symbol of the calm, methodical approach adopted by Pex Tufveson. He has cleared 15 feet in practice.

If you look up and down the roster, we are pretty young. I know I start two seniors, but some of the younger girls are getting some valuable experience which we didn't have last year. I'm just really pleased the direction that we're going.

It's a good start, my first match in a couple months competitively. It's always good to just kind of get going, get used to the environment, get used to competing again.

Bonnell was a nice surprise. He's been working out really well, but we didn't know how he'd do in tough competition. He did really well, and the pole vault points basically did it for us.
