Last week we were sort of embarrassed at what [San Diego] was able to accomplish, and I think guys stepped up and tried to play more physical, more aggressive. Collectively, everybody did a better job at their roles.

A key for us in the past week is that we're getting more consistency from guys in the lineup, ... Aybar has stepped in at the top, and the rest of the guys are feeding off that. He's set the tone and everybody's followed. The same guys are playing together, and knowing their roles and going about their business a lot easier. (Virginia) is almost like a mirror image of us. They play a lot like we do. Their guard play is very good. Their post guys are very physical. They're aggressive and they play extremely hard. Dave's done a great job of getting those guys to believe they can be successful in this league.

Our depth today stepped up. Different guys have to play different roles because three key players are out. We are starting to feel more comfortable.

He stepped in and took on multiple roles with [senior kick returner] Greg Fields out this week with a hamstring pull. The nice thing is, we had no drop-off in our special teams play, and clearly Jay elevated his defensive back play [as well].

Our guys responded, adjusted, and responded. Interesting enough, I talked to our guys all week about expanding their roles, and we had some guys expand their roles today.

We've just been doing the things we have to do individually and collectively in the system we play. People are playing their roles.

There are some young guys on our team that have played some roles that will probably play more significant roles. There are some guys we want to see against very good competition ? or at least I do.

In the second half, our guys stepped up and tried to play him more physical. We also kept him guessing in the post with our double teams.

That was a typical University of Washington versus Arizona State basketball game. Very physical, emotions running high. They're real aggressive and we play an aggressive brand of basketball, and when you put the two together, sometimes tempers flare. Our guys did a good job of maintaining their composure.

Unfortunately I can't celebrate because we lost. It's sort of ironic that I scored against the guys I play against week in and week out.

I give Pembroke full credit. They beat us to just about every loose puck. Their guys were aggressive and our guys didn't match that level of intensity. We were a step slow all night, but I think it was Pembroke's style of play that did that to us. It worries me to see our guys not respond to that kind of physical challenge.
