I don't know who's left to hear us. But if there are people who want the real thing, we've got it. My band rocks, and I plan to keep doing it 'till nobody shows up to see it anymore.

We went into this with an uncompromising attitude that we would put a message across. They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band.

I left Belle and Sebastian because I just wanted to explore different kinds of music -- to mill around and do my own thing. I like to have a band around me, but I started to feel that the name [Gentle Waves] really didn't apply anymore, and I couldn't think of another good one.

We're definitely not a bar band anymore. People expect to see a rock show in the bars but we're transitioning into a recording band, trying to take it to a national level. For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

People want something more than just music. They don't want this bubble-coated pop stuff as much anymore. They want something real and they want to hear the artist's story.

We plan on networking at these shows as much as possible. People can't hear our music if we're not out there playing it. Plus, we'd like to think we have surprises waiting... never a dull moment with us.

In most places, people's primary purpose is not to hear music but to socialize and interact. But Jimmy's has a real good mixture, and I think the majority of the people who come have a sincere musical interest in hearing a band.

I've heard comments made in other disasters that the first thing they did was throw the plan away because the plan was worthless. A plan should not be some requirement. It should truly reflect what your real needs are, and what your real resources are.

We're officially on hiatus, maybe even officially over. It's kind of up in the air. No one said, 'We're done as a band.' Everyone's just doing their own thing, and (some members) don't have time for this band anymore. I haven't quit, but I've also decided to stop thinking about Limp. I'm not going to keep trying to breathe life into a dying animal. It just ground to a halt.

Wes Borland (1975-)

When I'm in here I'm fine, but when I go into the real world and see other people functioning … I had two jobs before I left. Now I don't have anything. Just sitting around looking at the houses outside, it's like I had that, I don't have it anymore,

Advanced ticket sales have been terrific but we've also found that on the day of the show twice as many people are just walking up (to buy tickets). Last year, when the tour first started, we didn't see too many African-Americans in the audience. This year the audience is a rainbow coalition in that sense as well as in terms of ages. The audience ages are all over the map. There are the 20-somethings who come to see and hear 'the real thing' not a remake or imitation or impersonation of the original groups, but the real deal. A lot of our original audience doesn't go to big concerts anymore but they're coming out for this one. It's one last party.
