Our NHL security division has a meeting with every team every year, and they go over a lot of these issues like gambling and undesirable places and things like that. I'm not in it. So, I can't tell you exactly what they tell them.

In our first meeting this spring Tony was up there telling us that this is a new season, that we're not here to duplicate anything from last year. And he's right. This is a new team and a new year. It's a white collar criminal act and they're gambling when they do it. You're gambling with your life. Because if you're convicted it's a felony charge. If you have a gaming license you will never again have one. If you have a business license, in some places, you may never again have one. You could go to jail.

The decision was made after I had a very professional meeting with Louis on Tuesday, when we brought him in to review the season. Following the meeting, we decided not to offer him an extension, that the program had issues we needed to deal with as we move forward in the new Big East Conference. We will be focused on prevention, education and outreach. In other states, which we expect will be the case here, the lottery is considered low risk for gambling problems. Those that have started lotteries in recent years have seen a very low impact from the lottery on existing gambling issues.

The people involved in illegal gambling are often doing other things besides the gambling. And that's what makes it so distasteful.
