Some of the guys we counted on stepping up or needing to step up really didn't show up, and that was disappointing. We can't have that kind of drop-off between the first group and second group.

This is not a real rah-rah group, it's more of a group from within, a group that's going to play from within, and I kind of like it. They don't have to make a whole bunch of noise. They're going to show what they got on the field, and I kind of like that.

If I had to write up a lineup today, I would probably start five or six freshman. We're so young that some of those young guys are going to have to step up. It's kind of interesting. Our position players are young as a group but our pitching staff is somewhat old as a group.

It wasn't me, but those guys had fun. I stayed as far away from that group as I could. I'd show up for five minutes and leave, but they'd play cards, watch TV, have fun. They were a very close group.

I can already sense there's a difference in this group of guys just because of what last year's group did. I think that will show up in timely hitting and execution and being able to play the game without fear.

Each year we have had a group of seniors to lead the others. This group is capable of stepping into that role next season.

We wanted to be like a group would be in the year 2000, ... a space age group -- computers, masks, mystery, technology. That's kind of the group we were in 1983.

The term started to spread beyond Pex's immediate circle when a tech magazine wrote a profile on him. I think he brings some stability to that group. The linebacker group is a very, very young group. He is kind of the elder statesman. He's rather quiet, he's not a big vocal guy, but they do have questions and he's been there.

We have two factions on our team right now. We have guys who are trying to do too much because other guys aren't stepping up. And then we have another group of guys who are just out in left field somewhere and don't seem to get it.

Our defenders are a confident group. Our new goalie will have to show that she belongs in the big time but Melissa has shown she's willing to step up. I'm hoping she becomes the vocal leader back there because our defenders aren't the most vocal group in the world.

There's a tremendous amount of camaraderie between these guys, as well as a lot of competition and backbiting. They come to me and say, 'Why did he get to do this? Why did he get to do that?' A lot like they are on the show with Tony. And it's true that when they're together, a kind of group-think takes over.

I thought our guys played well. It was a young group. When you throw a young group against a veteran group, you may be able to win a game like that. A veteran group is going to use their brain a little bit, and that's what they did.

Usually bullpen guys are cut from the same mould. They're laid back, they don't take things too freaking personal, so it's a good group. I knew it was a good group coming in and it was a group I wanted to be a part of.

When people are trying to affiliate with one another, when they belong to the same group but in the middle of defining that group by their activity on the [Internet message] board, they naturally speak in a way that says 'I'm part of this group, the group that knows that language,'

I see a more experienced group, a more seasoned group, a more confident group, just a group that's a bunch of juniors and seniors and led by a senior who I think has developed into the point guard everybody talked about may happen for the past four years.
