Since then, I served on the parks board the last 141/2 years, the last four years as president of the park board.

We've kind of been on the backs of (the Arizona Parks Board) for years for doing squat.

For years it has bothered the board that we have not been able to give Ray enough compensation for what he is worth. He will have devoted 22 years to Columbus and has no real retirement benefits. With that in mind, the board thought he needed some sort of severance package.

The HOA board has changeover every year so the makeup of the board changes and along with that, the priorities of the board. I think this is a way to make board production a business. Everyone has tried to undercut each other — no one would ever want to increase their price because they didn't want to be the most expensive board on the rack. They've actually been their own worst enemy for years.

Mayor Henderson has been real supportive of the park board and the parks department since he became mayor.

I'm sure there will be similar responses from other parents about Carol's work. I've served on the PTO board for three years. I can assure you that I would not do this if it weren't for Carol.
